EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage...

The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.

All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

Enabling Environements

An enabling or positive environment plays a huge part in how children learn, and here at Tadpoles we take great pride in our environment within the classroom and outside the classroom.  Please look at our tour of the classroom photos where you can see our range of resources! We are constantly updating our tour as we develop our classroom and garden further so please do keep an eye on this page!

Characteristics of effective learning:

The characteristics of effective teaching and learning

In planning and guiding what children learn, practitioners must reflect on the different rates at which children are developing and adjust their practice appropriately.

3 characteristics of effective teaching and learning are:

  • playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’

  • active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements

  • creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.

Our curriculum at Tadpoles is based upon having the three boxes above to a high standard!

We have staff who are all qualified at level 3 standard and above! Who have all undertaken various training to keep up with the developing EYFS. All staff are fully trained on the Characteristics of effective teaching and learning. So they all know how to find your child's learning style, so because of this they can teach them in a way that suits them best!

Our environment is ever changing as we reflect and adapt it to our cohort of children each term and we always review any interests the children have and fundraise to buy any equipment that will help support any interests within the setting. An example of this would be our shop! The children were all very interested in playing shops and a great deal of skills from the following learning areas: Maths, Physical, Personal, Social and Emotional, Literacy, understanding the world and even expressive arts and design came from playing this one game and so we though it would be beneficial to purchase a shop so the children could play the game to their full potential. Its safe to say the shop has been a very valuable and popular purchase!

So putting our staffs knowledge of the EYFS, theirs knowledge of Characteristics of effective teaching and learning and our high standards of what our environment should include and be like together, we have come up with a curriculum which is a mixture of adult and child lead that we feel provides the best variety of learning to help your child learn to their full potential but most importantly through play and having fun! Being many of the children's first experience of learning, we want to teach them that learning is fun!

What we intent to do...

What we implement to be able to do it and the outcome of our Curriculum...

Intent:

We are determined at Tadpoles for children to learn to the best of their ability and reach their full potential within a happy, safe and healthy environment with the best support that suits them and their learning styles!

Implementation:

We will make sure every child has the opportunity to learn to the best of their ability and reach their full protentional. We will do this by providing a range of adult lead and child lead activities which covers all, of the seven areas of learning within the EYFS. By having an enabling and positive environment to which the children can self select the toys and equipment. By keeping up to date and reflecting back on our every day teaching to always improve further.

Impact:

To show the outcome and the impact our teaching has on what your children learn at Tadpoles we do termly phone call appointments with your child's key person so they can keep you updated with your child's progress throughout the year. We have an open door policy and so if you have any other queries at any other time you are always welcome to phone in or arrange to see your key person at any time. We also have Tapestry online journals where we post your child's adult lead progress on for you to see! Although we do try to capture a photograph every day we might not always have one to show! This is because sometimes its more beneficial for our practitioners to be taking part in the activity with your children and so they will be unable to photograph as well. We will always prioritise the teaching and learning and the support given to your child over a photo opportunity!
